Custom Error Pages
Learn what a Custom Error Page is, what role does it have and how to create one.
If you have looked at a lot of Internet sites, you have probably stumbled upon some error message from time to time. An error may take place if the hosting server cannot process a request (Error 400), if you have to log in so that you can see some content and you haven't done so (Error 401), if you aren't allowed to access a page (Error 403) or when a link leads to a file which isn't on the server (Error 404). Getting this kind of messages could often be frustrating as the pages have absolutely nothing in common with the actual site. That’s why some web hosting companies allow you to use your own error pages that'll match the style of your own website and that may have any content that you would like - details why the error has appeared, a suggestion how to proceed or even some witty remark. This type of function shall help you keep the visitor on the site irrespective of the error or the reason for it.

Custom Error Pages in Cloud Web Hosting
You can set up custom made error pages for any of your domains or subdomains. The feature is supported by all
cloud web hosting solutions that we provide, so as soon as you log in to the Hepsia CP and go to the Hosted Domains section, you can click on the Edit button for a domain/subdomain and in the pop-up that will appear, you can pick the kind of error page which should appear - a default one from our system, a standard Apache server page or a personalized one. For the latter alternative, you have to specify the URL to the page, so if you use custom pages, you need to upload the files in your website hosting account first. Another way is to use an .htaccess file placed inside the domain or subdomain folder with a line for each and every error type. The exact syntax can be seen in our Knowledge Base, to help you use this function even if you do not have any previous experience.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Servers
When you host your websites in a
semi-dedicated server account from us, you can set custom made error pages for any of them easily through our in-house created Hepsia hosting Control Panel. With just a couple of clicks inside the Hosted Domains section, you could modify the default setting from a system page to a personalized one for any of the four error types. All you need to do is supply a link to every single file which you have uploaded before that and then save the change. If needed, you shall be able to revert this change whenever you want and in exactly the same way. If you'd like, you can use an .htaccess file too. It should be created/uploaded in the domain or subdomain folder linked to the internet site whose error pages you intend to modify and the content for this type of file can be found in our Help article on this matter.
